Welcome to Passport to the Poles. we invite you to share in understanding our beautiful, interconnected and fragile world. the world is changing now faster than ever before in human history and we are placing increasing pressure on its resources.
This unique education project is inspired by a 5 month record-breaking attempt to journey pole to pole by helicopter, piloted by Jennifer Murray and Colin Bodill. This website shares an understanding of our changing world, as seen by young people across the world. The resources here are created by the teachers and students of schools along the route , in partnership with the Royal Geographical Society with IBG and the Polar First helicopter team. they are free for anyone to use in class, for homework or just for fun.
The amazing views from above are what the two pilots, Jennifer Murray and Colin Bodill, will see as they fly overhead - you can track the helicopter too. Ranging from polar deserts to tropical rainforests, selected views are brought to you from the helicopter, by satellite images and using Google maps.
Views from the ground use students personal accounts to bring alive the places and environments they live in - from some of the biggest cities on earth to remote wilderness areas.
You will see the pressures we are placing on this planet from looking at the ecological footprints that are being calculated by students. Why not join in and calculate your own? Comparisons from different places and lifestyles will be uploaded as the helicopter passes by.
Explore the links between the polar and other areas. learn how all our lifestyles are changing the planet and what effect that is having on the Polar Regions in particular. See what people are doing to make a difference; maybe make a pledge yourself and certainly think about the future - our shared future.
